General rules of conduct

Please read the following rules and guidelines very carefully. By posting in our forums, you are agreeing to these guidelines and must follow them at all times. Refusal to obey these guidelines will result in the appropriate responsive actions by the board’s moderators.

People responding to you may simply be people with an interest in youth custody issues wanting to share their knowledge with others, and so their participation in helping here is entirely voluntary. Abusive treatment or language directed toward those offering assistance will not be tolerated. Bad behaviour can result in termination of your membership of the Beyond Youth Custody website so please be civil and considerate of others at all times.

Our guidelines are divided into the following categories:

  • Posting topics, requests or comments
  • Signatures
  • Advertising, spam and pornography
  • General conduct
  • Moderation of board

Violation of any of these guidelines will be evaluated by the board’s moderators and consequences imposed as necessary to maintain this forum as a friendly and functional place for all members.

Posting topics, requests or comments

All topics should be addressed through the forums. Please do not send a private message or email to any other member (whether moderators or not) unless the member has invited you to do so. Instead, please post directly to the forum. This has the added benefit of making the answers available to all users, whether currently or in the future.
Remember to post in the correct forum. Take your time to look at other topics and see where your topic should go. If your topic is placed in the wrong forum, it will be moved by a moderator.

Posts should be directly related to Beyond Youth Custody or youth custody issues. Posts which are unrelated are subject to deletion by the moderators without notification.

Text formatting should be employed only on a limited basis, i.e., avoid using large or non-standard fonts; keep bold, underline and coloured text to a minimum; etc.

Signatures

Signatures may not be any larger than four lines of normal text or excessively distracting.
If you are asked to modify your signature by a moderator because it has violated the guidelines or otherwise been deemed inappropriate, and you fail to do so, your posts will be removed.

Advertising, spam, and pornography

The following are prohibited on our forums:
Advertising or promotion of any products or services, whether solicited or unsolicited
Spam of any kind or linking to pornography

Posts of this nature will be immediately removed from the forum.

Personal promotion of your own website or service in your signature is permitted to the extent that it does not violate these guidelines, or the signature guidelines described above.

General conduct

Personal attacks on other users, moderators, or staff members either in public forums or private messages will not be tolerated.

The use of profanity is inappropriate on the forum, as are racial, ethnic, or gender-based insults. Our user base may include members of various ages, genders, ethnicities and religious backgrounds, and it is important that everyone feel equally comfortable here. Posts that are offensive, insulting, or inflammatory are subject to immediate removal without warning.

Having fun or even disagreement is permitted, as long as it does not become disruptive or rude.

All comments should be constructive and on-topic (within reason).

Moderation of board

You can find your threads through your member profile. You can access your profile by clicking your member name in the “Logged in” link located in the upper right corner of any page. From that page, click “Topics started” or “Replies created”, if you’re looking for a specific post within a thread in the left section of the profile page. Do not re-post the thread.

If you see a post which appears to violate any of our guidelines, do not respond to the post. Instead, email beyondyouthcustody (at) nacro.org.uk stating the title of the post and your complaint.

At all times, we reserve the right to remove any threads/posts that we deem to be off-topic, inappropriate, abusive, or disruptive to the community in general.

At all times, we reserve the right to ban any member who violates our guidelines or disrupts our community. Warnings will be issued where appropriate.
